Education and culture are the driving forces behind social development. In an educational region such as Lüneburg, government policy is focused on offering all citizens the opportunity to participate in education and culture.
This is why the District and the City of Lüneburg are strongly committed to a holistic approach. Opportunities to receive high-quality education – ranging from day-care centres for children to universities and adult education centres – as well as a wide variety of cultural institutions and activities ensure the best qualification of young people and a high standard of living. Our libraries and archives serve as a bridge between cultural and educational institutions.
When it comes to the number of child-care places, the Lüneburg region is far ahead of the rest of Lower Saxony. It also has pioneered the expansion of full-day schools. Since 2003, 16 full-day schools have been approved in both the District and the City of Lüneburg (as per 2011).
