Christmas time in Lüneburg
When thousands of little lamps bathe the historic gables of Lüneburg in a warm glow, the run-up to Christmas has started in the old Hanseatic city famed for its salt. Over 700 years old, the market square in front of the town hall is a magical setting for the Christmas market, while the surrounding streets provide a stage for the fairy tales from Grimm, to the delight of the watching children. Illuminations also give a seasonal glow to the three historic churches St. Johannis, St. Michaelis and St. Nicolai and the town hall itself. In such an atmosphere Christmas shopping in the traffic-calmed town centre can only be fun.
You will never be bored when going to a Christmas Market Tour in Lüneburg that has its own very special charm to offer. There is a wide programme of exciting activities: Christmassy fairy tale mile in town centre, choirs singing every day, Father Christmas appearing at 4.00 pm every day, illumination of church towers, display of special lighting effects at Town Hall, Christmas city tours, church concerts and Christmas tales at the theatre.
Further information, package offers and group programmes are available on request. Please contact the Tourist Information Centre in the Town Hall.
